Google search and google+ combine to provide social search results

Search giant Google has just launched its socially enhanced update to its Internet dominating search engine. Now social results from Google+ can be viewed on the front page of any search.

It's a bit cheeky of Google to do this - it clearly favors their own products, technologies and platforms. It's got Twitter's knickers in a knot alright. They've justified it by saying that search results that come from people you already know and trust are arguably going to be more valuable to you... and their probably right.

With that one concern aside, is Google search plus your world a good thing? You bet. It's going to mean that businesses, entrepreneurs and the little guy can start appearing in search results without having to fork out tonnes of time, money and effort to outcompete sites and businesses that can afford massive SEO programs, advertising and so on.

But I digress... the reason I believe Google search plus your world will kill off twitter is because of the following:

Twitter doesn't really have 120 million users. The number is closer to 20 million "active" users - an active user is someone who has made a few tweets and has ten or more followers. Active it may be, but its a pretty lowly standard.

Google+ has only been around a few months and already has way more users. It's surpassed Twitter already. With the search results integration, Google+ is going to become a really important social marketing tool.

Google search + social integration = PR perfect storm
