Apple's iPad will sink below 50% market share by mid 2013
Apple's iPad is an iconic tech gadget that has dominated the market in the few years it's been around. Heck, it created the market in the first place.
All is not well for the iPad, however. It faces stiff competition from Amazon's Kindle fire, which is far cheaper than the iPad.
Samsung's Galaxy also sells like hotcakes and is a more direct competitor to Apple's iPad since they are priced more or less the same.
There is more competition from other products, like the ASUS Transformer Prime Tablet that is currently (at the time of posting) ranked 48 in Amazon's Computers and accessories department - incidentally, the HP touchpad tablet is ranked 7, making it a better seller than the iPad at the moment.
Finally, newcomers at CES such as Razer have shown off concept models of specialist tablets, like Project Fiona, which was voted People's choice winner.
With all this competition, it's no wonder that Apple's iPad lost nearly 4% market share in the last few months of 2011. It's not that the iPad isn't awesome... it is. It's just that Amazon are cheaper, and companies like Razer will make more specialized tablets can take over certain niches.
